 Black History Month: Poem A Black Women Strength Through Slavery Struggle By Naomi Johnson

In the crucible of time, the black woman stands,

Her spirit tested, her heart in demand. Through centuries of struggle, she's borne the weight, Demoralized, defamed, yet refusing to abate.

She watched her children torn from her embrace, Sold like chattel, their innocence effaced. Her daughters and sons, cruelly hung on high, Their lives extinguished 'neath a merciless sky.

Agony seeped into her very soul, Yet from within, she found strength to console. A heart of gold, resilient, bold, Mentally whole, though the story untold.

Discredited, disgraced, by those of her kind, Burdened with tears, resentment entwined. Forced to birth in fields of cotton and woe, While leaving her own, in anguish, to grow.

But her love for Christ, a beacon of hope, In the darkest of nights, helped her cope. Raising the child of her oppressor's might, Disliked and despised, yet she held to the light.

Through abuse and injustice, her determination soared, Her inner grief, transformed, into something more. A virtuous peace, an internal release, Her spirit unbound, her courage increase.

Her strength, a mystery, defying all measure, A testament to resilience, a source of great pleasure. Ethnic groups ponder, try to explain, The endurance of her pain, the depth of her strain.

Yet she hides it with pride, her hurt deep inside, But silently, it resides, where her dignity abides. A treasure of struggle, undeniable and true, Her spirit runs free, in all that she'll do.

With spiritual encouragement, she carries the flame, Through trials and tribulations, she'll stake her claim. For the black woman's essence, a beacon so bright, Shines through the darkness, with unwavering might.
